Bronisław Huberman
Bronisław Huberman (1882-1947), one of the most outstanding 20th century Polish violinists, born in Częstochowa to Jewish parents. At the age of 10 he left Poland with his parents and as a child prodigy gave concerts in Vienna, Amsterdam and Paris. Count Jan Zamoyski was his patron. In 1896 he played Brahms’ Violin Concerto in D Major in the presence of the composer. At that time he already played the Stradivarius known today as Gibson ex Huberman. In 1929 he left for Palestine for the first time and in 1936 the Palestine Symphony Orchestra (today known as the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra in Tel Aviv), which he established, gave its first concert. The event symbolically marked the birth of Israeli cultural and artistic life. The orchestra consisted of Jewish musicians for whom Huberman created the opportunity to immigrate to Palestine and, thus, escape the Holocaust. Read more>>
